BetterEurope – What Is Needed?

The event wi ortunity to reflect on the current state and future of the EuropeanUnion, with a focus on concrete proposals for reform that do not require changes to the treaties.
For the past 6months, the Poland was holding the Presidency to the EU Council, promotingslogan “security, Europe”. In January, in Brussels at the Business and Science Poland, the group of Polish independent experts coordinated by the think tank Centre for International Relations (CIR) presented a report“Better Europe” - a Polish contribution to the reports of Draghi, Letta and Niinisto, requested by the European Commission. It gives a series of concrete suggestions how toreform the EU without opening the treaties.
Since February,the authors of the report have been visiting the capitals of the EU memberstates to discuss the text and the EU’s future. In May, the CIR in cooperationwith the Prime Minister’s Office, invited to Poland over 60 experts and opinionleaders from all the EU member states plus countries-friends (UK, Switzerland,EEA) for the Think tank Forum:Better Europe. The discussion led to the suplement to thereport and the participants signed „Warsaw Consensus” declaration to create aEuropean „Brain Book” network.
