A closed-door brainstorming roundtable “Far from the Deal: What Future for the Transatlantic Economic Relations?

This brainstorming roundtable, designed to be a frank and interactive exchange in a narrow circle of experts under the Chatham House rule, will be an opportunity to confront the diagnoses and recommendations coming from a variety of stakeholders: decision-makers, think-tankers, and representatives of the business community. The participants will address – among others – the following issues:

  • Can the EU’s trade relationship with the US be rebalanced in a way that would be satisfactory to both sides? What have been the economic costs of the increased tariffs so far?
  • How will the EU-US relation fit into the new world trade order? Is it necessary and feasible to reduce economic ties with the United States?
  • Can the EU build a coalition of countries which still believe in the benefits of free and fair trade?
