Roundtable: “Prescription for Europe’s Pharmaceutical Sovereignty”

MEP Elżbieta Łukacijewska (EPP, Poland), together with Business & Science Poland and Medicines for Poland, will host the roundtable discussion: “Prescription for Europe’s Pharmaceutical Sovereignty: Challenges & Strategic Directions”.

The event will take place on 4 November (Wednesday) at the European Parliament.

The roundtable will bring together representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the EU, think tanks, NGOs, business and the pharmaceutical sector for an open discussion on how Europe can strengthen its pharmaceutical sovereignty and reduce strategic dependencies.

The discussion will focus in particular on:

• the role of the Critical Medicines Act in strengthening Europe’s pharmaceutical security,
• the latest developments and next steps around the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive,  
• the links between pharmaceutical sovereignty, public health, defence and national security,
• the importance of the next Multiannual Financial Framework for supporting industrial and innovation capacity,
• the potential of the Biotech Act for Europe’s long-term competitiveness,
• the role of EU institutions and Members of the European Parliament in shaping the future policy framework,
• possible support mechanisms for the European pharmaceutical industry.

The event will provide an opportunity for an open and practical exchange on how to strengthen Europe’s pharmaceutical security, industrial resilience and long-term competitiveness.
