The European Commission has presented its strategy for the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), aiming to enable their commercial deployment in Europe in the early 2030s.
Witold Strzelecki, Managing Director of Business & Science Poland, described the strategy as a positive signal for nuclear energy in the EU, but stressed that support for the sector must be translated into concrete actions and legislative solutions. He also emphasized that the growing interest in SMRs should not come at the expense of large-scale nuclear reactors, noting that both technologies should be developed in parallel as complementary solutions for Europe’s energy transition.
